New City Fellowship began May 15, 1994 around the vision to be a cross-cultural church, ministering to black and white, rich and poor, male and female, young and old.  As a PCA congregation, we believe in the full inspiration of the Scriptures, and seek to preach the whole counsel of God to the whole person.

2 Peter 1:3-11
“How Do You Know God Chose You?”
1 Timothy 4: 7-8
Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.
Often as Calvinist we emphasize election.  We are saved due God gracious act of choosing us before the foundation of the world.  Because He chose us He makes sure we persevere and we get to stand upon a New Heaven and a New Earth.  This teaching is absolutely scriptural teaching.  The problem is we often forget to give the other side that Peter gives us in these verses.  We forget to give the human response side.  The effect God’s choosing has on how we live our lives.  As Douglas Moo puts so well.  “God elects but I must believe (I would add we must believe genuinely.).  God preserves me until the end, but I must put to death the misdeeds of the body if I hope to find eternal life (Rom. 8:13).”  Both are biblical.  Peter elsewhere has spoken of God’s elect, but now he tells us how we know we are God’s elect.  We make our election sure.
